Leaves of Home (2024) marked Joonhee Myung’s first solo exhibition, tracing how ecological imagination can take root even in the midst of climate crisis. Through drawings, photographs, and video, the works unfolded as fragile landscapes, leaves adrift between belonging and displacement, echoing the artist’s own migrations. Memory and nature intertwined, suggesting that even what is uprooted can find new ground.

This exhibition became the seed for her ongoing Nomadic Fluidity Series, a body of work that flows across media to explore urban streams, migratory birds, and vanishing architectures. Neither fixed nor linear, the series reflects on how life survives in flux, between Seoul and Santiago, stillness and motion, memory and dream. Each fragment, whether a hand-drawn bird or a submerged photograph, becomes part of a larger search for presence in a world of constant passage.

The exhibition traces the life of a wandering leaf, lifted by winds through Seoul’s asphalt roads, the plains of Mongolia, the Neva River in St. Petersburg, the Andes of Peru, and the statues of Easter Island. Each awakening reveals a new landscape: a Chilean living room, a mountain village in Inje, the snow-covered Red Square in Moscow, the UN headquarters in New York, and an indie music hall in Seoul.

Through these passages, the artist reflects on a life that resists settlement yet gathers memory and matter along the way. Photographs and videos become the leaf’s imprints, fragments of places, people, and times collected like found footage. The exhibition is a record of nostalgia and motion: a leaf suspended in the whirlwinds of history, becoming a tree without roots, yet alive in perpetual movement.

Zanmulgyeol is an ongoing research and art project tracing subtle ripples, visual, ecological, and historical across Korea’s built landscapes. Through photography, illustration, and fieldwork, it uncovers forgotten symbols, migratory patterns, and the quiet dialogue between nature and architecture. Rooted in observation and resonance, Zanmulgyeol records the living archive of what remains, returns, and resists disappearance.
